The Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) is a non-profit, international consortium concerned with the development, convergence, and adoption of e-business standards. One of these is the OpenDocument Format for text documents (.odt), spreadsheets (.ods), presentations (.odp), graphics (.odg) and databases (.odb).
The consortium produces standards for web services, security, e-business, and standardization efforts in the public sector and for application-specific markets. Founded in 1993, OASIS has more than 5,000 participants representing over 600 organizations and individual members in 100 countries. See OASIS for more details.
OpenDocument became popular as the default format to save files in the OpenOffice.org suite. See Wikipedia for more information on OpenDocument.
