Azureus is a free software BitTorrent filesharing client for POSIX (Linux, BSD, etc.), OS X and (32 bit) Windows. Azureus is written in Java and is very flexible, with many plugins to suit your liking. Recently, a new GUI was added to Azureus: Vuze, developed by a second seperate project.
The BitTorrent protocol is a way of exchanging or distributing data over the internet. Downloading and uploading are linked, to ensure fairness and speed in the spread of files and programs. Azureus has a large (multi language) user base and is a multiple (2004, 2006 and 2007) Sourceforge award winner. Good support is offered in many languages with active forums, Wiki manuals and IRC chat.
The Vuze interface offers five views for Azureus:
Dashboard - A 3 panel split view: Currently downloading, recently downloaded and available downloads.
OnVuze - A list of available channels, each channel with available downloads.
Library - A list of downloads on the right hand side and information on the selected download on the left.
Publish - A publishing wizard to add your content to the Vuze community (registration is required for this).
Advanced - The good old Azureus view.
