Chromium - Google Chrome on Linux

posted in [ Internet ] by JJan on Wed, Mar 18 @ 06:53 AM
Free Software Shop | Internet Chromium, the project behind the development of the open source Chrome browser by Google, released a new beta 2.0 yesterday for Windows. The Linux version is still pre alpha. This download squad blog shows how to add Chrome to your repositories (Ubuntu and Debian) and provides some screenies and feedback on how things are advancing.

The Windows version of Chrome beta 2.0 was announced by this Chrome blogger, the latest version can be obtained here.

Major improvements in browsing speed, while new features were added along the way. A nice thing about Chrome is that, compared to other popular browsers, each tab runs code seperately from other tabs. This prevents problems on one tab to decrease the performance of other tabs. As of now, other browsers lack this, although IE8 is following the same route I believe. A downside of Chrome is the lack of addon repositories, similar to FireFox. But no one perfect solution exists of course (yet?).
