Mumble is an open source VOIP based voice chat program featuring low latency and high quality, ideally suited for gaming.
Mumble is similar to closed sourced applications like Ventrilo or TeamSpeak. For supported games, Mumble features game linking for positional audio, based on DirectSound 3D. Voice from other players originates from the position of their characters. Furthermore, Mumble has echo cancellation to block sounds from the loudspeakers to enter the conversation with other players, preventing noise and audio loops. Speex is used for many sound functionality like compression, noise cancellation, etc.
Mumble is short for the client application, the whole voice chat application suite is Mumble and Murmur.
Mumble runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Murmur runs on anything you can compile Qt4 on.
